Robert Erdmann first encountered fashion photography during a lecture while pursuing his undergraduate studies in the History of Photography at Princeton University. A photograph by Avedon shown on the lecture screen was quickly dismissed by the lecturer as “fashion photography”. Robert was more than intrigued.

Moving to New York, he assisted trailblazing photographers, including for a few privileged days, Helmut Newton. After working in Milan for several years as a stylist for Italian Condé Nast, he ventured to London to begin work as a photographer. His career quickly gained momentum as he contributed to influential publications including i-D, The Face, and British Vogue. The legendary Malcolm McLaren served as a significant mentor, granting him access to the thriving music scene, and work shooting album covers soon followed. As his international career progressed, Robert relocated to Paris, cultivating longstanding relationships with the Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire titles. Moving to Los Angeles, Robert worked under contract with both Condé Nast and Time Warner.

The experience of shooting extensive covers during that time has provided him with the ability to work with major talent from the worlds of film, TV and music. His more recent work includes directing films for various clients including Oxfam and Allure.

Robert’s career in different working environments has given him extraordinary opportunities in learning how to communicate through photography. In particular, he is thankful for the collaboration with the strong, intelligent and empowered women of the fashion and entertainment industries, both in front of and behind the camera, who have encouraged him and allowed him to find his voice.
